View Strategic Plan
The Tri-State Stroke Network (TSSN) is composed of twenty-seven appointed members, nine each from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The membership includes public health and medical professionals, policy makers and advocates; plus resource persons and consultants. Its activities are supported by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Funding began October 1, 2000. The activities of the Network are organized into committees: Executive, Epidemiology and Data and Ad Hoc committees.
Mission:
TSSN – a consortium of public health leaders and experts in stroke prevention and treatment in NC, SC, and GA – creates system and policy improvements to reduce morbidity, mortality, and reduce the impact of stroke in the “Stroke Buckle” of the 3 states.
Goals:

Generate information resources based on current data that could be used to reduce the burden of stroke in the Stroke Buckle |

Identify and promote best practices in prevention and treatment for replication across state lines. |

Increase awareness of the burden of stroke (health, economic, social) among key decision makers to promote policy and systems change |

Reduce stroke-related health disparities in the Tri-State Region |
Highlights of Accomplishments:
- The establishment of an identity package for the Network, and a Power Point presentation and a standard exhibit on the Network for use by each State with a customized panel detailing specific stroke statistics.
- The creation of a partnership in May 2002 with NINDS for the Know Stroke. Know the Signs. Act In Time. Campaign by co-branding of posters and disseminating educational kits to all three State HDSP staff and community
- A role in the North Carolina and Georgia applications to CDC for funding to develop the Paul Coverdell Stroke Registry and to promote the stroke registries in the region.
- The provision of technical assistance to the Delta States Stroke Consortium
- Compilation of a matrix of clinical guidelines and programs for stroke in the Tri-State area
- The development of a website for public and professional use- www.tristatestrokenetwork.org.
- A host of presentations on the Network have been made across the country at various conferences
- An assessment of Enhanced and Basic 9-1-1 coverage in the Tri-State area
- Media coverage of Face to Face meeting and mentions in various CDC publications
- Regional GIS maps of stroke mortality and Joint Commission certified primary stroke centers
- Journal articles on geographic disparities of stroke
- Annual stroke summits that offer continuing education opportunities
- Survey of stroke facilities (hospitals) in SC and GA that showed capacity to treat stroke patients
