Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) www.nhlbi.nih.gov/
A large scale study sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The study demonstrates through three dietary plans rich in low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables (including readily available foods) is effective in lowering blood pressure.

The DASH diet will help reduce the amount of sodium you consume. It offers tips on how to start and stay on the eating plan, as well as menus and recipes.

The Hypertension Initiative Of South Carolina and the Carolina's-Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) ASH Rural Project Report (PDF)
is a collaborative effort to reduce cardiovascular disease by improving blood pressure control. The Initiative and ASH will train physicians in Gerogia, North Carolina and South Carolina to become Hypertension Experts for their communities. These experts will learn to provide hypertension education to their colleagues, receive referrals and consultations and track hypertension control rates. Data monitoring and program feedback will be used to track their progress.

The goal of COSEHC is to improve the degree of control of hypertension in the Southeastern US by reducing death from hypertension related conditions such as heart attack and disease, stroke, and kidney failure. 12 Cardiovascular Centers of Excellence operate throughout the Southeastern US.

The Center offers comprehensive medical care of hypertensive and peripheral vascular diseases and related illnesses. A diverse outpatient and inpatient range of services are offered at the Center which is housed at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina.

from the NC Cardiovascular Health Program, is a hypertension intervention reaching African-Americans that includes an educational brochure on hypertension and a blood pressure recording card.

Stroke Heart Attack and Prevention Program (SHAPP) — The mission of SHAPP is to reduce illness and premature death in Georgia from stroke and heart disease. SHAPP seeks to identify people at risk for their disease conditions and teach them how to manage their lifestyle to prevent complications.
